The contractor and visitor sign in systems most used in New Zealand include SiteKey, Sign In App, VisTab, SiteConnect, Site App Pro, MRI OnLocation, HealthSafe SecurePass, Clockie, SmartSignIn and HAS Visitor Sign In. Some are reception visitor systems, some are health and safety platforms with sign in as one module, and some are sign in tools built for worksites and farms. SiteConnect and VisTab only quote on request.

This page is written by Gordon Findlay, who builds SiteKey, and SiteKey is one of the systems listed. Read it as one supplier’s account and check each website yourself. Every other company’s details come from its own public website, read from New Zealand on 27 October 2026, except MRI OnLocation, read on 20 September 2026. Nothing comes from a quote, a demo or private material. Each company’s name belongs to it.

Each system in more detail

SiteKey

Worksite sign in and site safety records, New Zealand

SiteKey is the system we build. People sign in by scanning a QR code with their phone camera, or a personal QR pass at a kiosk, with no app to download. Hosts get an email when their visitor arrives, and a reception kiosk can print visitor badges. Before a contractor can sign in, SiteKey checks their induction and the training you require, and it blocks the sign in if anything is missing or expired. It also keeps incident reports, toolbox talks, site walks, JSAs and WKS-14 pre-qualification against the site.

$30 a month for an office or school, $50 a month for a worksite, $10 a month for each extra site, excluding GST, with no per-user or per-sign in charge. Setup is quoted at a fixed price.

Suits construction, warehousing, manufacturing, farms and transitional facilities that want the gate check and the daily safety records in one place.

Sign In App

Visitor and workplace platform, United Kingdom

Sign In App runs on an iPad kiosk and a companion app for staff, with smartphone sign in, geofence auto sign in and live evacuation reports. Employee and contractor sign in is in every plan. Enhanced adds a pre-visit registration portal, ID scanning and desk booking. Pro adds SSO and SCIM, unlimited SMS and an account manager.

NZ$835 a site a year on Core, NZ$1,675 on Enhanced, NZ$2,515 on Pro. Each postcode needs its own subscription. Hardware is optional and priced separately.

Suits offices and multi-site businesses with a reception desk, especially where Entra ID, Teams or Slack integration matters.

VisTab

Tablet visitor management, New Zealand and Australia

VisTab delivers a tablet kiosk set up and ready to go, with a Brother label printer for visitor badges. The tablet keeps running through power or network outages on battery. Visitors can also sign in from a QR poster on their own phone, and staff and contractors can use the VisTab app. Hosts are notified by email or SMS. VisTab says it has been running since 2011 and is used by over 2,000 organisations.

Price not published. Enquiry form on the website.

Suits schools, aged care, offices and factories that want a supplied kiosk with badge printing, and schools using Hero, eTAP, Edge or KAMAR.

SiteConnect

Health and safety platform, New Zealand, Australia and United Kingdom

SiteConnect is a wider health and safety platform with apps on the App Store and Google Play. Sign in runs by geofence from the app, by QR from site boards, or at a kiosk. The platform also covers inductions, contractor management, SWMS and JSAs, forms, incidents and assets.

Price not published. The pricing page is a form that emails plans out.

Suits businesses that want sign in as one part of a full health and safety system and are happy for workers to use an app.

Site App Pro

Health and safety platform, New Zealand

Site App Pro is a forms and safety platform for construction. QR visitor register and check in and check out start on the Team plan. Professional adds an external portal where contractors and suppliers submit compliance documents, plus incidents and training content.

$185 a month on Essential (2 users), $350 on Team (10 users), $499 on Professional (40 users and 40 contractor users), excluding GST, paying monthly. Annual saves 20 percent.

Suits building companies that want digital safety forms and processes first, with sign in included.

MRI OnLocation

Visitor and contractor platform, formerly WhosOnLocation

OnLocation lists inductions, evacuations, multi-language sign in, a mobile app and standard or touchless kiosks. Plans are capped by the number of visitor and contractor sign ins a year, and going over moves the account to the next plan with the difference back charged to the start of the term.

NZ$899 a location a year on Small (3,000 visitor and contractor sign ins), NZ$2,570 on Medium (10,000), NZ$4,589 on Large (20,000), read on 20 September 2026.

Suits larger organisations that want an established enterprise platform and can forecast their sign in numbers.

HealthSafe SecurePass

Visitor and contractor management, New Zealand

SecurePass covers QR sign in, kiosks with visitor ID labels, emergency headcounts with SMS, and contractor management. Its feature table lists validating requirements at sign in to allow or deny access. HealthSafe lists ISO 27001.

From $45 a site a month on Lite, $99 on Core, $163 on Plus where staff and contractor sign in starts, billed annually. Enterprise is quoted and carries full contractor management and governance.

Suits logistics, manufacturing and government sites that want a reception kiosk and are buying at the Plus or Enterprise level.

Clockie

Time clock with visitor sign in, New Zealand

Clockie is mainly a staff time clock with rostering, leave and payroll exports, and visitor sign in is included. Visitors and contractors sign in on the same tablet kiosk, read hazards, answer questions and sign. Clockie describes its contractor induction as “a soft gate: it alerts and records, it does not lock a door”.

$29 a month for the first five staff and one location, excluding GST. Extra staff $2 a month each, extra locations $10 a month each.

Suits hospitality, childcare and small businesses that need a time clock and want visitor sign in with it.

SmartSignIn

QR visitor sign in for farms and worksites, New Zealand

SmartSignIn is QR visitor sign in through the phone browser. Visitors read a briefing, acknowledge it and sign in, and a chosen manager is notified of arrivals and departures. SmartSignIn states that it does not provide offline sign in.

Priced by visitor visits. $30 a month + GST for 20 visits at one location, $75 for 50 visits at three, $145 for 100 at five, $350 for 250 at ten. Extra visits $1.50 each + GST.

Suits farms and small sites with low visitor numbers that need a briefing record.

HAS Visitor Sign In

iPad and phone app, New Zealand

HAS Visitor Sign In runs in kiosk mode on an iPad, staff mode on phones with QR posters, and admin mode for managers. It covers contractor inductions with 12 month validity, host notification by email and SMS, photos, signatures, evacuation roll call and auto sign out. The App Store lists HCS New Zealand Ltd as the seller.

Free to download. No subscription price is shown on the App Store listing.

Suits businesses that want an iPad app at reception with staff signing in on their phones.

Monthly cost as you add sites

The entry price of each per-site system as the number of sites grows. Annual prices are shown per month.

1 site
SiteKey, worksite$50
Sign In App Core$70
MRI OnLocation Small$75
HealthSafe Lite, from$45

Entry tier for each system, from its published page. Sign In App Core NZ$835 and MRI OnLocation Small NZ$899 a site a year, shown per month. HealthSafe Lite is from $45 a site a month billed annually and covers visitor sign in. MRI Small is capped at 3,000 visitor and contractor sign ins a year. SiteKey is $50 for the first worksite and $10 for each site after that, excluding GST.

How to choose a sign in system

Start with what the bill is based on. The systems above charge by site, by staff, by user or by number of visits. A per-site price stays flat when a busy season brings more contractors. A per-visit or capped plan rises with traffic, and a per-user plan rises as the team grows.

Then look at what happens at sign in. Some systems record an acknowledgement. Some alert a host when an answer is wrong. A few stop the sign in until the induction or training is done. If contractors work on your site, decide which of those you need before comparing prices.

Last, check what the visitor needs. A QR code that opens in the phone browser works for anyone with a phone. An app needs installing first, and a supplied kiosk needs a power point and someone to look after it. Our buyer’s checklist lists the questions to put to each provider.

Where SiteKey fits

SiteKey suits operational sites where contractors come and go and the induction has to be done before they start. It suits sites that want incident reports, toolbox talks and site walks kept in the same place, on a flat price per site.

If you mainly need a reception kiosk with badge printing and directory integration, Sign In App, VisTab and HealthSafe are built around that. If you want a staff time clock with payroll exports, Clockie does both.

See contractor sign in and visitor sign in for how SiteKey handles each, or the one to one pages for SiteConnect, MRI OnLocation and Site App Pro.

Common questions

What is the best contractor sign in app in New Zealand? +

It depends on what you need at the gate. If contractors must have a current induction before they start, look for a system that blocks the sign in, such as SiteKey. If you mainly run a reception desk, Sign In App, VisTab and HealthSafe SecurePass are built for that. If sign in is one part of a full health and safety system, SiteConnect and Site App Pro cover more modules. The table on this page sets out each one.

How is contractor and visitor sign in priced in NZ? +

Each provider uses a different basis. Sign In App, MRI OnLocation, HealthSafe and SiteKey price per site or location. Clockie prices by staff numbers, Site App Pro by users and SmartSignIn by visitor visits. SiteKey is $30 a month for an office and $50 a month for a worksite, excluding GST, with no cap on people or sign ins.

Which sign in systems need no app? +

SiteKey and SmartSignIn both run sign in through the phone browser from a QR code, with no app to install. Clockie installs from the browser onto a shared kiosk. Sign In App, SiteConnect, VisTab and HAS use an app or a supplied tablet for some or all sign in.

Which systems stop a contractor without an induction from signing in? +

SiteKey blocks the sign in when the induction or required training is missing or expired. HealthSafe SecurePass lists allow or deny at sign in in its feature table. Clockie describes its induction step as a soft gate that alerts and records. For the others, ask the provider directly, because their websites do not say.

Do any sign in systems charge by the number of sign ins? +

Yes. SmartSignIn plans include a number of visitor visits a month, with extra visits at $1.50 each + GST. MRI OnLocation plans cap visitor and contractor sign ins a year and back charge if you go over. SiteKey, Sign In App and Clockie list unlimited sign ins.

How was this comparison put together? +
